Adult cardiac surgery

In the Cardiac Surgery Clinic of Munich University, we perform over 1600 operations annually using the heart-lung machine and additionally over 1400 operations without a heart-lung machine. Because of our research and specialisation, we are today one of the leading centres worldwide for minimally invasive surgery. Minimally invasive procedures on the beating heart require extracorporeal circulation (ECC) more rarely and can avoid use of a heart-lung machine (HLM). This reduces the risks substantially and also promotes significantly faster recovery. Our clinic enjoys great recognition as an international training centre in techniques of minimally invasive cardiac surgery for cardiac surgeons and medical specialists. We publish the results of our research in numerous international publications, where they receive worldwide attention. We have won many national and international research prizes and we are also supported by the German Research Foundation. Our patients thus receive the best possible treatment according to the latest international cardiac surgery findings.
