Heart valve replacement

In complex malformations, the use of “spare parts“ is often necessary. Homografts and bovine vein valves are used in particular for valves. Homografts are human valves that are stored deep frozen.

The cardiac surgery department of Klinikum Grosshadern has its own homograft bank with valves from size 9 mm upwards, which are required for correction in premature infants. Since all sizes are available, the required size can be determined on the spot in the operating theatre and the specially selected homograft can be thawed directly.
