Lung transplantation

Lung transplants have been performed in Grosshadern Clinic since 1990 in collaboration with the departments of thoracic surgery/surgical clinic, pneumology/medical clinic I and the anaesthesiology clinic. Our clinic is thus one of <place w:st="on">Europe</place>’s biggest lung transplant centres. Under the direction of Prof. Bruno Reichart MD, the first successful heart-lung transplant in Germany was performed in 1983.

As part of the Munich Lung Transplant Group, the cardiac surgery department is involved in the pre- and postoperative care, apart from the surgical work. It undertakes the entire logistical organisation.

For this purpose, our clinic has a transplant outpatient clinic that can now look back at over 25 years’ experience in the field of thoracic organ transplantation.
