Services
The Cardiology Clinic adjoins Stiftsklinik and consists of the surgical unit with two operating theatres and a 14-bed intensive care unit and recovery ward. With regard to the medical staff, the Cardiology Clinic is associated with the University of Munich's Clinical Centre in Grosshadern. The Director of Cardiac Surgery at the Cardiology Clinic is Prof Dr Bruno Reichart; Anaesthetics and Intensive Care is headed by the Senior Physician Dr Kilger.
In the two operating theatres, physicians perform all procedures involved in adult cardiac surgery. These include heart transplants, artificial heart implants and cardiac surgical procedures without heart-lung machine. Each year around 800 to 1,000 operations are performed, averaging four surgical procedures per day.
As before, 400 of these patients are from the Stiftsklinik, i.e. the diagnosis of cardiac disease is made here. All other patients are referred to the Cardiology Clinic or Stiftsklinik for surgery and for pre- and postoperative care via various other hospitals and cardiologists in private practice.
