Trailblazer with Experience and Competence

The Cardiology Clinic of the University of Munich at the Augustinum was opened in 1995. It is a cooperation facility of the University of Munich's Clinical Centre in Grosshadern and Stiftsklinik Augustinum of the Protestant-Lutheran Welfare Association Collegium Augustimum.

The reason for this uncommon cooperation between the state, the university and a private provider was the general shortage of capacity and the long waiting periods for cardiac surgical procedures in Bavaria. The Cardiology Clinic at the Augustinum is the logical consequence of the almost two decades of cooperation between the two clinical centres.

Until the Cardiology Clinic was opened, about 400 patients a year were prepared for cardiac surgery at Stiftsklinik, operated on at the Clinical Centre in Grosshadern and subsequently returned to Stiftsklinik and the associated aftercare clinic Ammermühle for nursing. Since the commencement of surgical operations in 1995, cardiology patients of Stiftsklinik no longer need to leave the building but are operated on in LMU’s Cardiology Clinic at the Augustinum.
