The children's ward
Apart from medical therapy at the highest level according to the latest knowledge, our treatment concept consists especially of including the parents in the treatment team. Comprehensive, honest and open information is provided to parents at all times. They can view all the records at any time.
If the parents feel unsure during discussions before the surgical procedure, we recommend getting a second opinion and having the child treated where the parents feel they are receiving good and competent advice. Trust is important and alleviates the distress felt by all parents of a child with heart disease. This is particularly important when things do not go entirely smoothly for there is nothing worse than being worn down by thoughts such as "if only I had..." or "if only we were...".
The children’s ward is part of this treatment concept, with its competent and people-oriented team of doctors and nurses who will try to help with any problem, even nonmedical. The small and cheerfully redesigned unit helps the fear of a large hospital to disappear quickly. Parent can stay in the parents’ kitchen – a furnished lounge - and will also be given meals.
