Indications

In childhood, a fundamental distinction is made between congenital and acquired heart and heart/lung diseases when heart and heart-lung transplantation is indicated.

The acquired heart diseases include:

  • Cardiomyopathies
  • Life-threatening arrhythmias
  • Benign cardiac tumours
  • Secondary pulmonary hypertension

The congenital heart diseases include:

  • Defects without further operative options
  • Myocardial pump failure
  • Primary pulmonary hypertension
